Attention
Please note that all cables delivered by Synapticon are for development and testing purposes only. Make sure the cables used in production comply with the requirements of your application in terms of bending or torsion.
The following picture demonstrates the concept of Synapticon’s EtherCAT-STO Cable. There are two types of cables that are considered:
A standard RJ45 connector for the Ethernet communication with the master
A three strand wire that needs to be connected to your safety output (STO-SBC In 1, STO-SBC In 2 and Safety GND)
Note
This connector is on the drive side of the Y-Splitter cable and on both sides of the Drive-to-Drive cable.

The cable and its wires should meet the minimum requirements of EtherCAT standards.
Attention
For connecting EtherCAT devices only Ethernet cables that meet the requirements of at least category 5 (Cat5) according to EN 50173 or ISO/IEC 11801 should be used.
The Distance from the connector to the cable housing shall be 30 mm.
Shield wires must be protected with a shrink tube or similar.
Each transition of cable-to-wires must be secured/protected with a shrink tube that is lined with adhesive. This prevents the shrink tube from sliding off.
All the wires should be of the same length, or as much as possible of the same length, in order to prevent tensions in different wires.
Wires 4 and 5 must be twisted together according to EtherCAT standards.
Wires 6 and 7 must be twisted together according to EtherCAT standards.
Wire 1 shouldn’t be twisted with any other wire.
Wires 2 and 3 may be twisted, but it is not mandatory.
Attention
The cable should be able to withstand a maximum voltage of 100 V wire-to-wire and wire to shield.
The Drive-to-Drive cable is used to connect two servo drives.

Both STO and EtherCAT cables are provided on one side with this connector: GHR-08V-S from manufacturer JST.
The STO cable has open wires on the other side.
The EtherCAT cable is connectorized on the other side with standard RJ45 connector.
The cables should be able to withstand a maximum voltage of 100V wire-to-wire and wire to shield.
The cable must be as thin and as flexible as possible.
